World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

In the fall of 2023, I had the privilege of traveling to Bangkok, Thailand, to attend both the NESA 2023 Fall Leadership Conference and the 53rd Annual EARCOS Leadership Conference. At EARCOS, I met many wonderful education thought leaders and innovators. One such person was Veronica McDaniel, the Executive Director and Founder of FREEST International.

FREEST confronts human trafficking by activating students and educators worldwide. They aim to dispel myths about human trafficking, support students in initiating groups on their school campuses, and ignite passion in them to become advocates and activists. Through these efforts, students learn to recognize the signs of trafficking and help prevent each other from falling prey to traffickers, whether online while gaming, on social media, or at the mall being approached by someone pretending to be a modeling agent.

Tuesday, July 30th, is the United Nations World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. This year’s campaign, “Leave No Child Behind in the Fight Against Human Trafficking,” aims to raise awareness of child trafficking. Knowing that one in three victims of human trafficking is a child, the work of FREEST is more important than ever.
